What is Decorative Concrete?

Decorative concrete is a type of flooring. Any look, texture, color or feel can be re-created by choosing decorative concrete as your choice of flooring.

How is it installed?

By first applying a Cementitious overlay to the existing concrete. This overlay is a mixture of sand and cement and is put down at an 8th of an inch thick. There are several coloration techniques which are applied throughout the installation process, which one depends on the look, color you desire.

How long does the process take?

For residential four days is generally all it takes to complete, however for commercial applications where the square meter is over five hundred please add a couple of extra days for completion.

What types of existing flooring can the overlay be applied to?

To existing concrete, also to tiles and basically any flooring where the floor is not flexible. Unfortunately overlays can not be applied to wooden flooring, unless of course the wood is first taken up to reveal the existing concrete. Please note that these overlays can also be applied vertically also.

Can decorative concrete be installed outside?

Certainly, it is very popular for driveways, walkways and around pool areas etc.

How long will this floor last?

Concrete is the most durable and long lasting flooring option. This type of flooring will last you a life time.

What sort of colors, textures and looks can be achieved?

The imagination is the only limitation. Every color imaginable from earthy tones, pastel colors to vibrant hues. Even a shimmer coat of gold or silver is a popular choice. Textures from sandstone through to highly polished glass finish are just some of your options. Marble and tiles can easily be re-created. Logo’s, stencils and boarders are also all easily achievable.

What sort of maintenance is involved?

Your floor on completion of the installation will have two coats of floor sealer and depending on your decision to have a matt or gloss finish you have will 2-5 coats of a special floor finish applied after the sealing process. The more finish we apply the more shine/ gloss your floor will have. Recommended for cleaning is sweeping and mopping using a mild detergent and warm water.

How much does this flooring cost?

This depends on a couple of factors and we will determine the price once seeing your floor and understanding your needs. Prices will vary but do start at just 28 pounds per square meter for a ‘one of a kind’ custom floor, including materials and specialist labour.
